Ontologies for supporting negotiation in e-commerce

چکیده
In this paper we present our experience in applying Semantic Web technology to automated negotiation. This result is a novel approach to automated negotiation, that is particularly suitable to open environments such as the Internet. In this approach, agents can negotiate in any type of marketplace regardless of the negotiation mechanism in use. In order to support a wide variety of negotiation mechanisms, protocols are not hard-coded in the agents participating to negotiations, but are expressed in terms of a shared ontology, thus making this approach particularly suitable for applications such as electronic commerce. The paper describes a novel approach to negotiation, where the negotiation protocol does not need to be hard-coded in agents, but it is represented by an ontology: an explicit and declarative representation of the negotiation protocol. In this approach, agents need very little prior knowledge of the protocol, and acquire this knowledge directly from the marketplace. The ontology is also used to tune agents’ strategies to the specific protocol used. The paper presents this novel approach and describes the experience gained in implementing the ontology and the learning mechanism to tune the strategy. r 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Cross-Cultural Time Sensitivity in a Bilateral E-Negotiation System
For a long time, culture has been an influencing parameter in negotiations. Growth of international trades and business competitions has increased the importance of negotiations among countries and different cultures. Developing new technologies, particularly the use of artificial intelligence in electronic trading areas, has provided us with the application of intelligent agents to resolve cha...
متن کاملA Unified Framework for E-commerce Negotiation Agents
One of the challenges, of designing a negotiation agent, is to provide a unified framework. This allows heterogeneous agents to interact, despite their underlying architecture differences. In this paper, we presented a unified framework for e-commerce negotiation agent. The unified framework supports not only one-to-one and one-to-many negotiation, but also many-to-many negotiation. In supporti...
متن کاملAn Ontology to support automated negotiation
In this work we propose an ontology to support automated negotiation in multiagent systems. The ontology can be connected with some domain-specific ontologies to facilitate the negotiation in different domains, such as Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), e-commerce, etc. The specific negotiation rules for each type of negotiation strategy can also be defined as part of the ontology, reduc...
متن کاملTraining compositional agents in negotiation protocols using ontologies
The Internet facilitates the creation of new markets, which has motivated the development of new technologies for e-commerce. The increasing number of e-markets poses a big challenge to designers of e-commerce services. Agent-based applications are the most appropriate for merchandising because software agents are suitable for automating tedious tasks that the user may have to perform, such as,...
متن کاملThe Chimaera Ontology Environment
Ontologies have become central components in many applications including search, e-commerce, configuration and, arguably, every large web site (at least for organization and navigation). As ontologies become larger, more distributed, and longer-lived, the need for ontology creation and maintenance environments grows. In our work with ontologies and tool environments over the last few years, we ...
